"Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington, DC. The gift and annual celebration honor the lasting friendship between the United States and Japan and the continued close relationship between the two countries."[link][link]
A friend linked an article about the cherry blossom trees in Washington DC about a week or so ago. I knew the trees were originally a gift from Japan but didn't know much about it until I read more into it. I had an inkling to do a fanart this year! xD I meant to finish it sooner but other things distracted me. I finished today and found out this is the day the first cherry blossoms from Japan were planted in the US so oddly good timing.
It's um been embarrassingly long since I last posted any sort of fanart on DA and I am rusty...
Many of us cosplayers in southern California like to go see the local cherry blossom trees at a park near Los Angeles....though they weren't very good this year. xD But we're always on "sakura watch" this time of year to see when they'll bloom. March-April is definitely cherry blossom season. I really would love to go to DC someday to see the trees. Well, I guess I'd like to see them someday in Japan too. DC is more doable though lolol
